The role of studying the history of urban America

What role does the historical study of urban America play in the better understanding of the social, political and economic development in urban areas? In short, why should we study the history of urban America? Provide at least two specific examples based on your reading of "The History of Urban America: An Interpretive Framework" by Raymond Mohl and Neil Betten.

  1. The role of the teacher is providing historical study of urban America. The educators who teach about urban America helps us now to learn from the mistakes made from our ancestors so that we can improve on those mistakes made to have a better understanding and life in future urban environments. One example is a social problem, American of the past use to trade locally and provide goods and service’s internally which provided wealth and jobs to the urban communities in America. Currently in this century American large corporations have been outsourcing to make profit instead of provided to the local the communities to prevent the current collapse. Another example is the rise in crime, violence, and political corruption. Again large corporations who are making large profits off of poor countries are using these profit gains to lobby political leaders to allow them to continue to do as they please. With less jobs, and everyone looking for a way to survive they resort to violence and crime to survive the harshness current urban areas in America.
